Well, 2008 is almost over!

What kind of year have you had!?

This year has been a turning point for me! First, I am grateful for all things that have happened this year, even ones that may have, at first, seemed like negative things. It's amazing how you can turn things around!

I am so grateful for my family. My husband Bob, my wonderful children, Mark, Katherine and Lindsey. My good buddy and sister, Susan and her adorable son, Bobby!

I am grateful that I have found Etsy this year...well, my daughter Lindsey found it first. I can remember her telling me about this new site for handmade sellers some years ago. I didn't think much about it. I thought it looked neat, and was perfect for her. She has all the talent.

But in April, after always having a love for antiques and vintage, I opened my shop on Etsy. (Since it's also a place for vintage sellers!) I've learned a lot about business, photography, marketing, etc. It's been a lot of fun, and I think I've been pretty successful!

I have even bigger goals for 2009! I will be putting even more time into both of my shops. I also have a website on Artfire and Bigcartel, which I need to devote a little more time on.

And, I am really hoping to get my blog moving this year!

I would love to hear what kinds of things have been going on for you in 2008 and what your hopes and goals are for 2009.

I'm wishing everyone success and happiness in 2009! Start by counting your blessings, and you just my realize how successful you already are!

Best wishes, and thanks so much to all of my customers and all of my "vintage vixens" who have helped me to figure out what all the stuff is I'm selling (there's a lot to learn!).

Whether you celebrate Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa...or something else...the spirit is the same! The feeling of excitement! Of spending time with friends and family! Buying and wrapping that special gift for that special someone. Giving to those in need!

All of these things help to make the holiday special and memorable. It's tough to slow down and enjoy it all, I know. Today is Christmas Eve and I have been running around like a crazy woman. Writing this quick post reminds me to take it slow, everything will be wonderful, even if all the gifts to get wrapped!

I will also take this time to remember someone that I miss dearly. My best friend...who happens to be...my Mom! She's been gone for awhile now, but I know her spirit is here with us, not only during Christmas, but always. This woman had the biggest heart. As a child she had to bear a lot of heartache. She went on to become a mom to five children. Since she did not have a real parental role model, she read books. But she really didn't need books. She just was a special person, and the best Mom in the world. I don't think of this as a sad time, but a happy time. She always make Christmas fun! My Mom would "sneak" extra" gifts to me.

So remember those who are no longer with us...think of the fun (and funny!) times you had with them! You can't help but have the Christmas spirit.

I wish everyone a joyful Holiday season, sit back (or try!)...and enjoy! Create new memories!

Thank you to all of my blogging friends...and to new ones I will meet in the new year!

Happy New Year..best wishes to all!

I'm Officially the Worst Blogger

Hello--so sorry to all my "fans" for not posting to my blog for so long!

I've been so busy! My Etsy shop, actually, both of my Etsy shops, have really taken off...and I'm busy packaging and mailing everyday! I love that I am shipping all over the world! I have shipped to Australia, the UK, Japan, Italy, Canada...I have a feeling I'm missing someone...and I will be shipped to Malaysia soon!

I hope everyone is enjoying the holiday season!

I am feeling very positive about the new year! Last year I was comfortably in a part time job that I had forever, but was laid off at the end of March...devastated...but now, finding that it's the best thing that could have happened to me! It has opened a whole new world for me! I absolutely love Etsy and adore all of the things I sell (otherwise, I would not sell them..I have to love them too!). Not only that, I have met so many wonderful, positive, people..friends, and I am grateful for that!

I also have been working out like crazy! At first, it was to relieve stress. Actually, the first night after I learned I was going to be laid off, I went directly to the rec center and worked out like mad for over an hour! Well....I have lost at least 10 lbs, probably a little more. I am in no way bragging. I am just saying to everyone out there (I know you're there!), that change can be good! Plus...I know, there are so many people are there in worst circumstances than mine and I consider myself lucky!

Gratitude has been my word for 2008. For 2009, I am not sure what my word will be...but I'm thinking it will be perseverance...I have a great little part time job (2 days a week), and I really admire the owner of this company. He is the ultimate salesman and truly a good guy. It's kind of weird, I feel like I've known him forever. Sometimes when it's just the two of us in the office (it's a small office), we'll just chat forever, and the phone will ring (I'm the one that's supposed to answer it), and Pat will answer it...I forget that's my job, because he really just treats me like a buddy! I think it's helped me to work there and watch the way he is on the go all the time. I watch the way he works and it motivates me! So thanks to Pat...yes, my word for 2009 will be PERSEVERANCE! I hope that is spelled right...you know what I mean!

So here's to gratitude...that's important to always have! And here's to perseverance...keep going..you can do it!

Here's to the best year of my life...and yours...2009! and thank goodness for spell check-perseverance!

Blog Time!

I've neglected my blog long enough! So here I am...no plan of what this blog will be about. Maybe if I start rambling I'll think of something!
I hope everyone had a Happy Thanksgiving...we sure did!

I've started decorating for Christmas...I have a ton of smaller trees around the house, with lights and Bob put the outside lights up! I'm gradually bringing Christmas stuff up from the basement. I still have so much of my shop stuff in my living room that I need to clear out so we can put our tree up!

November was an exellent month as far as sales went...let's cross our fingers for December!

Good luck to everyone, and enjoy the holiday season!

Friends...Real Friends..Hard to Find!

You have acquaintances..you have friends from work, and those are nice. But I'm talking about real friends.

The friends that stand by you. They stand by you even though you have flaws. They stand by you even though they really know you. That is called unconditional love. and it's hard to find. I have that for my children, and my husband, Bob...no matter what they do..I will always love them.

It's important to have people in your life like that. No matter what you do or say...they love you!

This picture..it portrays a wonderful friendship! This is my husband Bob and his cousin/best friend, "Frawley". Sometimes I forget he has a first name. It's John. But I call him Frawley and so does my husband Bob!

We went to a Cleveland State basketball game last night. Usually it's "Frawley", Bob, and Mark, my "almost-17-yr old", Mark. I had a wonderful time, and was almost jealous of the relationship that Bob and Frawley have! But I'm not...because I can see why my husband Bob has been friends with Frawley forever..he's a good guy, and more important, a good friend!

Be grateful for true friends...they're hard to come by!
By the way...I do have a best friend, and it happens to also be my daughter, Lindsey! She knows me...and stands by me, and is always there for me..thank you Lindsey! It's been quite a year...turned out to be a fabulous year, but when I thought things weren't so great, Lindsey drove from Columbus to Cleveland to be there for me!
Thanks Friend!
Love Your Mom/Jen

My Latest Purchase from Etsy! Kimberly Shaw!

I really still cannot believe all the talent on Etsy!

I am so glad I found Kimberly Shaw! I first found her on Flickr and loved her pictures of teacups and then found her shop at http://www.kimberlyshawgraphics.com/ ...I was then so happy to find out she opened a shop on Etsy! http://www.kimberlysteacottage.etsy.com/ !!!

Well, of course, I had to order from her shop! I am so glad I did! I not only received the 3 lovely teacup cards with a little teabag tucked in them, but also adorable teacup stickers, an extra card, and an extra tea for me to try!

I love tea, but my daughter and her boyfriend enjoy it even more, so I know I am sending them a card! My sister is also a tea lover so I will be sending one her way!

Check out both of Kimberly's shops! They're adorable and you'll be happy you stopped by!

Getting Organized

That's my goal, to get organized!

Oprah recently had a show about that same subject!

Ever since I started my Etsy shop http://www.jenscloset.etsy.com/ I have more clutter than ever! I have a large (and wonderful) inventory of vintage items. I have been able to keep the items that are already listed in a separate area from the items yet to be listed.

My husband has been great about making shelves for all my stuff!

I guess I should have thought about starting an Etsy shop where I wasn't selling fragile china, glass, etc. Not only is it tough to organize, but also tricky to pack!

But...not to complain! I love both of my Etsy shops and am so thankful that I'm doing so well!

Anyone have some great organization tips? I would love to hear them!

Been Shopping on Etsy!

Gotta splurge every once in a while, right!?

From FGMOriginals, I bought these beautiful dangle earrings, and they even came in a pretty little pouch! Check out her shop at http://www.fgmoriginals.etsy.com/!

Also, I just love these pretty pics from Matou...they came all the way from Australia, and I love them! I can't wait to mat and frame them for my dressing room! Check her shop out at http://www.matouenpeluche.etsy.com/!

Thanks you guys!!

Everyone..shop at Etsy for Christmas!

I started a thread last Sunday on gratitude. It's easy to forget how lucky we are!

It all started during spin class, it was an hour and half endurance class and I forgot my towel-and you sweat a lot! So I had to get by on paper towels, not so great.

But all I kept thinking about was how lucky I am...my worst problem for the day would be that I forgot my towel at spin class and had to use paper towels...boo hoo!!
So when I got home (after a shower, in case you're wondering!)...I started a thread on Etsy about gratitude. What a fantastic reponse I got! So many people jumped in with there stories of gratitude, most grateful for their families, of course. Some very touching and moving stories about someone who had just lost their grandmother and how she was worried about how her sister would cope, but she was grateful that her sister was doing ok. Another person was grateful her mom had come of of brain surgery and was doing better.

So...when you're upset about some little thing that has happened during the day, stop and think. What are you grateful for? You'll be surprised at how many things you can think of!

Just Here to Say Hello!

I feel so bad that I've neglected my poor blog!

I have a goal...this week, I will set up an interview that I promised a fellow-Etsyian that I would do a couple of months ago! I hope I can find her and get it going!

Does anyone have any clever questions I can ask? No, not "If you were a tree, what kind would you be"!

Don't forget, Halloween is Friday! Are you dressing up? Going to a party? Let me know what you're up to!

My 15 minutes of Fame

Such excitement Wednesday when I came home for lunch! I did my usual checking of my Etsy shop, and logged off, so I could log onto my other shop (http://www.mymilkglassshop.com/ ), and before I logged back, I noticed my plates on the front page of Etsy, in a treasury! Okay...so that was exciting enough!

Then, I started receiving convos telling me my plates were in the Etsy Storque email, which I hadn't checked earlier...and there it was!

I received so many nice message from other Etsyians, and pics of my treasury!

I'm going to try to attach one of the pics right now-here goes-

okay-that one didn't work-let's try this-
okay-still having trouble!

Never mind...anyways, it was exciting, take my word on that! You can probably find it on flickr, there's a place where someone keeps a snapshot of all of the front page treasuries!
Have a good weekend,

It's Wednesday...what are you up to!?

I don't really have anything to say, but I've neglected my blog long enough, so I wanted to say hi to all of my nice blog friends that have left me a comment...thank you so much!!
I just sold this darling embroidery piece...I just love it!
It's Wednesday, which means it's off to work (Tuesdays and Wednesdays are my work days). It's a very small office, which is kind of nice. Definitely a lot different from a larger company, where they don't even know who you are! The owner of the company will call me into his office, and right away I think, "Oh no, what did I do wrong!?", but Pat will say, "pull up a chair, what's new!?"...and that's it, no hidden agenda, just a nice guy. This guy is a go-getter too! I'm still trying to figure out exactly what the company is all about, but I've kind of got it figured out! They are marketing reps for other ventrigular pump and electrical parts companies, or is it fentrigular, oh, whatever, I just know it has nothing to do with the pumps I love to wear!
Anwyays, I admire Pat's tenacity; he's always selling and it motivates me to push harder with my Etsy shop!
Okay, that's it, gotta go!
I wish everyone the best of luck...enjoy the rest of your week!

It's Friday!

I just thought I'd tell you that in case you didn't know! Yep! It's Friday! I hope everyone had a good week...with all this negative talk about the economy, things seem to be a little slower for everyone in regards to their shops. It just means you have to get out there and market your shop a little more!

I have been shopping (again!), and found some great new things to add to my shop. My problem is...I have enough! Wait, I'll change that, I have TOO much, and it's taking over my house! I'm thinking of having a Christmas Open House and people can check out my lovely vintage items in person..and maybe I can sell my overstocked inventory!

Has anyone had an open house tell sell things? I have helped my daughter with several jewelry parties and those were always very successful! And they're fun! We always brought a bottle of wine as a thank you to the hostess, and plus, depending on the total sales, she would get a discount on what she purchased! It's just one big fun party, where you actually make money too!

So today I will go to my usual Friday morning Bosu class (ever heard of Bosu?), and after that I will try to take some more pictures and get a few more things listed. I may stop in to my new place of employment to chat with the other girl in the office. She just got back from Europe, and her boyfriend proposed to her in the Eiffel Tower, try to beat that one! How romantic! So I need to chat with her to get all the details! We usually don't work together, I work the days she doesn't work, so I try to get in when she's there so we can chat, and I haven't seen her for a couple of weeks, so that will be nice!

Take care everyone!!

The Pyrex That Got Away!

It's haunting me!! I went to a church rummage sale yesterday, hoping to find some great Pyrex pieces! When I arrived, 15 minutes before opening, there was already quite a line of people waiting to get in! I started talking with everyone around me, and one nice lady had been to this sale every year for quite awhile, so she knew her way around! I told her my interest was in glass and kitchenware, and she told me exactly where to go!

So I went to the correct room, and found some fabulous milk glass, but alas, no Pyrex to be seen anywhere! Well...that is, until I was in line to pay, and there, right in front of me...yes, I could have touched it...was the prettiest Pink Oval Casserole with a lid....for $1.00. Yes, you heard me right, $1.00! But it belonged to the lady in front of me...oh how I wish I would have offered her a little more for it, maybe she would have done it! I happened to be looking around on Etsy, and there it was, like a tease, someone had listed one just yesterday (in another state, so it couldn't have been that lady!).

So, I need to move on and forget about it! Good news is I did find some pretty things! Some beautiful china that I will list soon!

I hope everyone had a nice weekend..the weather here was gorgeous! Sunny and the perfect temperature..just cool enough!

Best wishes to all!

More Pictures

Whoops, I wanted to add these pics too!

It's Dinner Time!

First, I would like to say how excited I am to have some many of you interested in my little hen! But it's going to make me sad that only one of you can win...so I am definitely going to have another giveway!

I love to cook! I find it's usually healthier and cheaper, just to make it myself. Don't get me wrong..I love to eat dinner out occassionally. We have a favorite tiny little Italian restaurant that we love, called Bucci's. I usually get pasta primavera there!

I decided to take some pictures of the dinner I made tonight, but I really can't take good night pictures, they were either too bright with the flash, or too dark w/out the flash. I'm hoping to find somewhere to take photography lessons. Okay...anyways..just use your imagination! I'm adding some of the pics even though they're a little blurry..the food was good and that's what counts!

I made a spinach salad (I love spinach) and added red pepper, radishes, celery, red onion, strawberries (yes, strawberries), green olives and black olives, yummy little tomatoes...I know I'm missing something, but anyways..it was so good! Oh...and notice the size differences in the salads!? My husband has been having stomach problems so he can't eat too much at one time..so sad!

I also love to make salad dressing..just use your imagination!! It's healthier, and again, less expensive! I just added some red wine vinegar, some gourmet mustard, honey, and olive oil, a little garlic salt, and pepper, and whisked that up!

For the scallops, we had the small ones. I started with olive oil and just a touch of butter (gotta have it~!)..cooked the scallops on medium heat for maybe about 4 minutes, then turned them over and cooked them for awhile on the other side..I like them to get a little brown crust on them. I also added some red onion, but I have also sauted up a bunch of veggies and put that over the scallops or salmon (my favorite).
Oh--and be sure to sprinkle fresh lemon on the scallops! I used some really pretty...and very old..bowls that were my Grandmothers...use your pretty stuff..I keep having to remind myself to do that!

How's that!?

Please feel free to share recipes!! I'm addicted to the food channel..it is always on in our house!

Don't Forget About the Giveaway

You still have time to add your comment..not sure how I'm going to pick a winner...but the cute hen is the grand prize!

Monday, September 22, 2008

I have decided to open a 2nd shop...thanks Lindsey (my daughter and best buddy), for persuading me!
My new shop will be so full of the most delicious milk glass..right now, only 4 items, but just you wait!

My second giveway will be milk glass to celebrate my new shop!! But before the contest, you need to comment on the 1st contest..which will end soon!

Thanks to all of my new blogging friends for visting!

You're all so sweet!

Saturday, September 20, 2008

Well...homecoming is tonight! I took lots of pictures! The 2nd one is of my two beautiful daughters, Lindsey and Katherine! Katherine is 15 and all dressed up for the homecoming dance! You would not believe how many dresses we bought...and how many I returned, until she had finally decided on this gorgeous blue one...until...she saw a prettier one at the dillards website..so I went and picked it up as a surprise for her. It looked beautiful! I even posted a pic or two on my flickr account!

Well, guess what! She started having 2nd thoughts, and found a dress that Lindsey had, that she got a few years ago at urban outfitters, with the tags still on it! (Yes...all three of us our quite the fashionistas!...I have a whole room dedicated to my clothes). So this pic you see of Katherine, is her with Lindsey's dress! We will probably keep the pink one from Dillards for the winter formal!

Katherine and all of her friends looked absolutely adorable...!!

Hope everyone is having a great weekend!

I feel so bad!

My daughter, Lindsey, just got here, from Columbus, and saw my hen that I'm giving away...and she practically laughed, no wait, she did laugh! She said.."this is the hen you're giving away".and I answered, yes, why!? and she said "it looks huge on your blog!"

So now I feel bad..I didn't mean to mislead anyone..of course it couldn't be a huge hen, the shipping would be crazy! This little green guy is adorable, no matter what his size is..but you want to know his size?

okay-here it is--is approx 3 3/4" in length and from bottom to the top of his head he is almost 3 1/2" tall! He's cute!!

I'm so happy to have 10 comments..I feel so popular! I love this giveaway idea so much, I'm trying to think of what I will giveaway next!

Also...I think it's a great idea to feature people on their blogs, which I've done..and I have been featured on other blogs. So...that will be my next endeavor..feature more of you talented Etsyians on my blog...handmade or vintage...I love it all! Just send me a comment with your interest to be featured, and I will try to come up with some clever interview questions!

Have a good weekend everyone!

Here I am

Oh, all of my blogging friends are probably wondering where I've been! Just kidding, I just kind of gave up on the blogging world. I was going to do a contest, but it seems silly with only a few visitors on my blog..not that I don't appreciate the ones that are stopping by! Thank you! It's given me a chance to check out other blogs..there are so great ones out there!
How about this little green hen..he'd be a great prize for someone..what do you think! He's just a baby, so he needs to go to a good home!
Leave me a comment and I will pick someone on September 29th!
Have a good-rest-of-the-week everyone!

I keep talking about it! I'm just going to give it a try! But not tonight!! Tomorrow! When I have more time to figure out exactly what it will be! Something that's not too heavy..most of my items are fragile/and/or heavy!

So keep watching...tomorrow for sure!!

It's coming!!

and here's a special hello to Lynda!

Tuesday, September 9, 2008

Thank YOU!

I'm so excited! Wow!! 8 comments on my blog, boy am I popular, or what!!?

Thanks to you guys...keep the comments coming! I keep saying I'm going to do a contest and now that I have some people viewing my blog, I'm ready!!

So what should I give away!!?? check out my etsy shop and see what you think! My stuff is usually kind of heavy and fragile, so I would like to stick with something smaller.

Oh --I have the cutest little Santa, maybe that? Here it is..what do you think!?

New website

I have a brand new website (don't worry, I still have my Etsy shop!), check it out at
I only have three items listed so far..but keep checking!

I still want to have a giveway and need suggestions, so anyone out there that has done giveaways at their blog, let me know your ideas please!

It's been a rainy day here, but I'm one of those people that actually likes it! I wouldn't like it everyday, or if I had to be out in it working...but there's something kind of cozy about it!

Isn't Positive Feedback Wonderful!

I am sure everyone feels the same way I do...when you see you've received a glowing, positive feedback from your customer..it's just the best!

I appreciate everyone one of my sales! I package everything extra carefully, since most of my shipments are fragile. I love to wrap them and add cute bows...I've always enjoyed wrapping gifts..so this is definitely one of my favorite things about my Etsy shop.

But back to the feedback! Thank you to everyone of my customers, and I special thank you to those of you that took the time to leave such thoughtful feedback...back at ya!

Okay...I need some help!

hah! if you know me, you're already thinking...yeah, you really DO need help!

No--I mean blogging help! I keep hearing how having a blog helps your business. Well, I have my blog, but I don't think it's helping!

So I'm calling for everyone to give me some tips, advice, etc. Be gentle please!

I have read in several forums on Etsy that people have had lots of success with giveaways on their blogs...so I really want to do that. Does anyone have an experience with this? I'm not sure how to start this and promote it..probably on an etsy forum, I'm guessing.

So comment away...I can't wait to get started!!

Thanks and have a productive and successful week everyone!!

On the road

Right now we're on I-95 in South Carolina...cruising at a good speed..don't worry, I'm not the driver!

I have a business question. I have a friend that went for an interview almost a month ago. She thought the interview went well and she really liked the people she met. She even sent a thank you note right out to them that day. After a week or two, she called and left a voice mail to see if the had made a decision yet. No reply. She sent a cute, quick little email a few days later...and still, no reply. So at this point, she's guessing (she's brilliant..that's why she's my friend!), that she didn't get the job. My question is...isn't that rude? No reply..no nothing? Have you heard of that sort of behavior in the business world!? No fears though...it turned out to be a good thing...she interviewed with another company, with an awesome salary, and room to learn so much more..and move up the "corporate ladder"! But I felt bad that the other company did that to her!

Why do I have so many spaces between my paragraphs?

Any bloggers out there know why this is happening?

Pretty Things

Hello Everyone! I hope you've enjoyed the table settings I've added to my blog! They were sure fun to set up! I will have more in a couple of weeks...so keep watching!
I also want to feature other Etsians on my blog, so let me know if you're interested!
Have a good-rest-of-the-week! ***Help, please-I still do not know why these paragraphs have so many spaces between them..anyone out there know?

Check out my etsy shop, I have listed many of the items you see on the table, if they're not listed, they will be!
